As a psychological counsellor and conversation therapist, I help my clients to develop more secure and healthy relationships with their loved ones (partners, children, family, friends) and with their selves.
Sometimes you get stuck in unprocessed past experiences and this has a harmful impact on your emotional and interpersonal functioning. Stressful experiences can define your behaviour and your feelings towards yourself and others. Therefore it is useful to be aware of the coping strategies that you formed throughout your life and to understand how they now impact your relationships, reactions and how you feel about yourself in the present.
Together with my clients, I explore these past experiences and their influence on their daily life and their relationships. They create new ways of thinking and relating to others and learn communication skills, parenting skills, conflict resolution, emotion regulation, relaxation techniques and many other skills to apply in their daily lives. I give great importance to the uniqueness and agency of each person. I use techniques from different therapeutic approaches. Together with the client I look for methods that work and feel right for her/him. This through a good client-therapist relationship based on open communication and sincerity. Therapy with extensive attention to the broader context of the client and the connection between body and mind.
I studied clinical psychology in Belgium and gathered a lot of my experience with individuals and families from different countries and cultures. Among other experiences, I worked with street children and their families in Peru, with teenagers in Uganda, migrants and refugees in Belgium, mothers and children in Burkina Faso. I live partly in Belgium and partly in Peru. Migration and cultural diversity are familiar concepts in my professional and private life.
